Maroon and white are the colors of the Medical Department. The cross is universally accepted as a symbol of the medical profession and alludes to the basic mission of the organization. The Taeguk taken from the Korean flag, with the eight rays, alludes to the unit's eight campaign credits; the four stars symbolizing the four decorations awarded the unit. The area divided by the lower half of the cross and forming two indented segments refers to the unit's participation in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns in World War II.
